Trump-Newsom Clash Intensifies Over National Guard Deployment Amid LA Protests

In the midst of escalating protests in Los Angeles over immigration enforcement actions, a heated exchange has erupted between President Donald Trump and California Governor Gavin Newsom. Trump’s decision to mobilize 2,000 National Guard troops without Newsom’s consent has sparked a public feud.
Trump justified the deployment by invoking a legal provision allowing federal service members to be mobilized in cases of “rebellion or danger of a rebellion.” He even suggested that Newsom should be arrested, echoing comments from his top adviser.
Newsom, in response, announced plans to sue the Trump administration, labeling the deployment a “serious breach of state sovereignty.” He urged protesters to remain peaceful, accusing Trump of seeking chaos and violence.
The governor claimed that during a phone call with Trump, the president never mentioned deploying the National Guard, calling him a “stone-cold liar.” Trump, on the other hand, asserted that he had warned Newsom about sending in troops if the situation wasn’t handled.
As tensions rise, Newsom has characterized the deployment as “an illegal act, an immoral act, an unconstitutional act,” while Trump defended his actions, stating that Los Angeles would have faced severe consequences without federal intervention.
The conflict has further intensified with Trump’s border czar suggesting that public officials obstructing federal immigration enforcement could be arrested. Newsom responded defiantly, challenging the administration to “come and get me.”
This escalating dispute highlights the deep political divisions and the contentious relationship between the president and one of his most vocal critics.
