Pardoned Proud Boys File $100 Million Lawsuit Against Federal Government

Five members of the Proud Boys, pardoned by President Donald Trump for their roles in the Capitol insurrection, have filed a $100 million lawsuit against the federal government. The lawsuit claims they were victims of “egregious and systemic abuse of the legal system and the United States Constitution to punish and oppress political allies of President Trump.” The plaintiffs, including Proud Boys leader Henry “Enrique” Tarrio, argue they suffered under deplorable conditions in detention. This legal action places Trump’s administration in a difficult position: either defend the Biden administration’s prosecution despite the pardons or force taxpayers to pay a settlement. Tarrio called for Trump’s attorney general, Pam Bondi, to rectify what he sees as the Biden administration’s errors. The lawsuit comes as former D.C. Metropolitan Police Department intelligence division leader Shane Lamond was sentenced for leaking information to Tarrio ahead of the Jan. 6 attack.
